Starting in March 2021 we will be running our next module, In His Image. We’ll be looking at humanity from the perspective of systematic theology, centering around the idea that we are made in God’s image. Different interpretations of this idea have been given over the centuries, and so in the first three lessons we’ll be looking at the main sorts of views that have been proposed as well as how these different views can be combined into a single wholistic account. Then, in the remaining two talks, we’ll look at how sin has affected the image of God and how Jesus has redeemed and elevated it.
The lessons will come out once every two weeks, and will be available online on our YouTube channel. Each lesson will be 10–15mins long, with additional discussion videos coming out between the weeks for deeper dives into the issues raised in the main lesson video. The lessons will be as follows:
On 15 March we’ll look at the substantive view, which sees the image of God as being about our human nature.
On 29 March we’ll look at the relational view, which sees the image of God as being about the relationships we have with God and other humans.
On 12 April we’ll look at the vocational view, which sees the image of God as being about our dominion over the rest of creation.
On 26 April we’ll look at the effects of sin, and what they means for our ability to bear the image of God properly.
On 10 May we’ll look at the hope of resurrection, and how Jesus developed the way the biblical authors speak about the image of God.
We aim our lessons at Christians who are interested in digging deeper into their faith. Our teaching philosophy is that this can be done in a way that is both accessible to newcomers to a topic and challenging to those experienced with it.
